The Independent FUOYE Electoral Commission (IFEC) conducted elections for Executive positions in the Faculty of Education today, 25th July 2026. The election was held online, with verification carried out through candidates' and students' school email addresses.
The exercise opened amid controversy after one of the candidates, Olagoke Miracle Eunice, filed a petition with the Dean of the Faculty over an error in her candidate details on the election portal. According to the petition, her photograph had been matched with another candidate's name, a discrepancy that caused confusion among her supporters. Efforts to reach the candidate for comment had not succeeded as of the time of this report.
A separate memo circulated during the late hours of the election accused Adewuyi Toba Francis of electoral malpractice, alleging that he obtained electorates' details ahead of the election and gained unauthorized access to their email accounts by hacking into election portals. The memo described the alleged conduct as criminal and called for the sanctioning of all persons involved. These allegations have not been independently verified, and Adewuyi Toba Francis had not responded to a request for comment as of publication.
Announcement of the results was subsequently suspended following the discrepancies and multiple petitions submitted to the Dean of Student Affairs questioning the credibility of the election. In a memo, the Independent FUOYE Electoral Commission, led by Odelami Ayotunde Moses, stated that the suspension was necessary in line with electoral guidelines and the principles of fairness, transparency, accountability, and due process.
The Union of Campus Journalists is closely monitoring the electoral process and will provide further updates as they become available.
