A new executive of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Student Union Government (SUG), led by President Ajayi Oluwasegun, was sworn into office at the Faculty of Arts Annex Building, Phase 2, in a ceremony attended by university management, representatives of the Vice Chancellor, and the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), marking the formal end of the Better Days Cabinet and the start of the Unifier Tenure. Today, 21st of July, 2026.
Dr. Jude Okoro of the Faculty of Law administered the oath of office to the incoming executives.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, did not attend in person but was represented by Prof. Alaba the Dean of Post Graduate school. Also present were the Head of the University Medical Center and Health Services, the Chief Security Officer, and deans from several faculties, including Pharmacy, Communication and Media Studies, and Social Sciences. NANS was represented by Comr. Taiwo Asefon, the association's National Head of Administration.
In his inaugural address, President Ajayi Oluwasegun said his administration would run on a four-pillar agenda he termed WASH — Welfare, Academics, Security and Health — arguing that students' wellbeing on campus depends on these areas being addressed. He appealed to the student body for support and pledged, in his words, to see all four pillars through by the end of his tenure.
The new executive was sworn in as follows: Ajayi Oluwasegun, President; Taiwo Victor, Vice President; Oluwatubosun Oluwaferanmi, General Secretary; Olawale Rabiu, Assistant General Secretary; Shobayo Olatunbosun, Treasurer; Oyelakin Solomon, Financial Secretary; Oni Olaoluwa, Public Relations Officer; Okoro Prosper, Social Director; Salami Nimotalai, Welfare Director; Akere Daniel, Director of Transport; and Isaac Ebenezer Ekoyon, Sports Director.
The Special Adviser to the Vice Chancellor on Student Affairs, in a goodwill message, congratulated the new executives, and used the occasion to call for justice over the deaths of students during a 2019 protest demanding improved electricity supply in Oye-Ekiti. He said, in his view, that justice would only be served when the demand the protesters died for — reliable electricity — is met.
Outgoing SUG president Comr. Adio Iyanuoluwa James reflected on what he described as 382 days in office, thanking his cabinet and university management, particularly the Dean of Student Affairs, for what he called improvements in student affairs. According to his address, his administration's achievements included a reduction in campus transport fares by 50 naira, the provision of 300 new mattresses for hostel students, a reduction in school fees, growth of an SUG WhatsApp channel to 21,329 followers, the Brainfest intellectual competition, and the FUOYE SUG Sports Festival, which featured football, taekwondo and judo, among other events.
Dean of Student Affairs Professor Babalola, in his opening remarks, commended the outgoing Better Days cabinet for what he described as fidelity to its "Better Days for FUOYE Students" mandate and for leading what he called innovative student programmes and academic initiatives. He congratulated the incoming executives and urged them to uphold their own mandate, the Unifier, and to lead through dialogue and by example.
The Vice Chancellor's representative said the event represented not a "cult initiation," in his words, but a celebration of democracy, responsibility and leadership. He charged the new executives with representing the voice of students, describing it as a role that demands courage, and urged them to serve with fairness, inclusiveness, innovation and unity.
Comr. Taiwo Asefon of NANS also congratulated the newly inaugurated executives and encouraged them to promote peace within the student community.
